FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR FILMING STYLE?

3 to 1 Video offers two distinct filming styles to choose from:

Cinematic Style - A visually rich, cinematic approach focused on creating a beautiful and emotionally engaging film. Smooth camera movement and intentional use of slow motion help highlight the details of the day, including décor, attire, florals, and other carefully chosen elements. Certain shots are thoughtfully set up with the bride and groom and wedding party, and may be filmed more than once to ensure the best possible result while still maintaining a natural, authentic feel.

Documentary Style – A full-length, candid approach that focuses on preserving events exactly as they unfold. This style includes complete coverage of key moments such as the ceremony, speeches, and formal dances, with no staging or interruptions. The emphasis is on authenticity, allowing you to relive the day naturally through real moments, real audio, and the genuine flow of your wedding day.

Do you film the full ceremony and Reception events?

Yes. Regardless of which video Collection you choose, we typically capture the full ceremony and reception events. The difference lies in what is delivered. If you select a Highlights Film Collection without adding a Documentary-style Collection, only select moments from those events will appear in the highlights film.

Full-length ceremonies and speeches are not included with the Highlights Film alone because producing complete events requires a significant amount of additional editing time. For that reason, they are offered as part of our Documentary-style Collection.

If you choose to add a Documentary-style Collection alongside a Highlights Film Collection, you will receive 50% off the Documentary-style Collection.

Do I have to wear a microphone?

Audio is an extremely important part of capturing your wedding day. High quality audio allows you to hear vows, readings, toasts, and other meaningful moments clearly and achieving that level of clarity isn’t possible without microphones. That said, we are always mindful of being as unobtrusive as possible.

During the ceremony, we typically place a microphone on the groom and the officiant(s), and occasionally on additional speakers if needed. We never ask the bride to wear a microphone. Because the bride and groom are standing close together, the groom’s microphone reliably captures both voices. The microphones we use are very small, about the size of a pencil eraser, and are designed to be discreet. We also carry multiple wind guard colors so the microphone blends more naturally with the attire.

For the reception, we capture audio directly from the DJ or band’s sound system to ensure speeches and formal events are recorded clearly and cleanly in your film.

Do You Travel and are There Travel Fees?

Yes, we are happy to travel! For non-destination weddings, we include up to 100 miles of round-trip travel at no additional cost. For distances beyond that, we simply charge the current IRS mileage reimbursement rate per mile.

If the travel distance is considered excessive, typically more than a 90 minute drive each way, we may require a local hotel stay. Depending on the Collection and the wedding day timeline, this may be the night before the wedding, and in some cases the night of the wedding as well. This ensures we arrive on time and are not impacted by travel delays on the wedding day. Trust us, the last thing you want on your wedding day is a vendor delayed by travel issues instead of being fully focused on your celebration.

We only request reimbursement for lodging, and if the hotel cost exceeds $150 per night, we will cover any additional amount ourselves.

For destination weddings or very significant travel distances, please contact us for a custom quote.

Do you work with photographers and coordinators on the wedding day?

Absolutely. We believe that strong collaboration between vendors is essential to a smooth and enjoyable wedding day. Our goal is always to work seamlessly alongside your photographer and coordinator and never to be disruptive or interfere with their work.

We coordinate closely with your photographer to ensure they have the time and space needed to capture their shots, while still allowing us to do the same. We also communicate with the photographer and coordinator both before and on the wedding day, often reaching out weeks or even months in advance to confirm timelines, expectations, and answer any questions. This teamwork helps ensure everything runs smoothly and your day is captured beautifully.

What happens if you are unable to attend due to an emergency?

While this has never happened in our 15+ years of professionally capturing weddings, we understand the importance of having a clear contingency plan. In the unlikely event of an emergency that prevents us from attending your wedding, we will make every effort to secure a qualified replacement videographer.

We have established relationships with several experienced wedding videographers throughout Indiana, and we would work diligently to arrange for one of them to step in. If a replacement videographer is secured, we would still handle the editing ourselves to ensure your final film matches our style and quality standards.

If we are unable to find a suitable replacement, we will issue a full refund, including the deposit.

How long does it take to receive our finished videos?

Film director Joe Dante once said, ““Editing is where movies are made or broken. Many a film has been saved and many a film has been ruined in the editing room.” This quote is very true, even for wedding films. Even the most beautiful footage can fall flat if it isn’t edited thoughtfully, while careful editing can elevate footage into something meaningful and timeless.

Because of this, we consider high-quality editing to be the heart of a great wedding film, even more critical than having perfect footage. We hold our work to a very high standard and would rather take the time needed to create a film you’ll enjoy watching for years to come than rush through the process for the sake of a quicker turnaround.

Our typical turnaround time is three to four months from the wedding day. Depending on when your wedding falls within the season, your film may be completed sooner. In particularly busy years with many back-to-back weddings, it can occasionally take slightly longer, though it is rare for edits to exceed four months.
